5 Times You Absolutely Must Hire An SEO Pro
Do you really need to hire an SEO professional? If any one of these 5 things are happening, you don't want to go it alone.
5 Reasons You Should Never Outsource SEO
5 reasons you should never outsource your SEO by http://webstarts.com.
It’s so tempting to want to hire someone to do all the work for us. After all most of us can only maintain a few core competencies at a high level. So why not hire someone to do the things in an are where we don’t believe ourselves to be an expert? This train of thought is highly evident when it comes to websites and internet marketing. Today I’m going to share with you five reasons you should resist the temptation to outsource one of your most important marketing channels in the digital age — SEO.
1. You know the keywords and phrases customers are likely to use when searching for your products and services better than anyone you can hire.
If you hire a firm or contract a person to do your SEO they’re not going to know as much about your products and services as you do. Chances are you’ve committed a good chunk of your time to speaking to customers and helping them with your products and services. It’s only natural you’re going to know which keywords and phrases they’re typing into a search engine to find you. If you outsource SEO the person you hire is not going to have this type of intuition about your business.
2. They don’t have a vested interest in your return on investment. They’re going to want to be paid whether they’re getting your better search engine ranking or not.
This is a big problem I personally have with the SEO game. When you hire someone they charge a lot because doing SEO is a lot of work. But just because they’re doing a lot of work and charging a lot for it doesn’t make that work valuable. That SEO firm or contractor wants to bill you whether you see a single cent of traffic increase. That’s just no way to run a business.
3. If they make a mistake and get your site penalized by Google they can move onto the next customer but you’re left with the damage.
Google is cracking down on black hat SEO practices like never before. Doing SEO is starting to feel like navigating your way through a mine field. If you get someone linking to your website that lives in a so called “bad neighborhood” online it can result in your site getting a penalty. If Google thinks you may have purchased a link to their site they can penalize you. If you outsource an SEO person and they make one of these mistakes they’re not going to have to live with it — you are. And for that reason it’s better you’re in the position to make these decisions than a design firm.
4. There are few truly good SEO people in the world and they do SEO for their own businesses because it’s more profitable.
It only makes sense that if you’re really that great at SEO you’d promote either your own products or someone else’s. There’s a lot more money in it and a lot less work. Being on the top of the search engine in like having your own personal ATM. If an SEO person is that good they’re not going to want to to deal with people calling them all the time wondering why their search engine ranking isn’t good enough.
5. They don’t understand your customer base and therefore can’t create the truly compelling content people will want to link to.
At the end of the day SEO is more about getting high quality links to your website than any other factor. If you outsource your SEO the people you hire aren’t going to be experts in your business and are not going to have the ability to create the content that attracts high quality links to your website.

07:47 – How much is SEO going to cost?
You can have the most beautiful and relevant website, but if it’s not optimized—and optimized CORRECTLY—it might as well not exist. Your business needs to have a strong online presence these days. It’s no longer an option — it’s a necessity, which in turn makes SEO a necessity.
Sadly, many business owners aren’t SEO savvy — and rightfully so. Most don’t have the time and resources required to become SEO experts. They’re too busy running the day-to-day operations of their business. That’s why they hire a search engine optimization company to handle the job.
Types of SEO pros
Individual consultants – These are freelancers who offer their SEO services.
Companies/agencies – Dedicated marketing and SEO experts on a larger scale.
In-house – You can either set it up yourself or add an SEO consultant to your own team.
What should I look for when hiring an SEO company/consultant?
Beyond the basics of making sure whomever you choose to do your SEO has the skill set to provide high-value campaigns, it’s important to make sure they have the following:
They have a detailed and established SEO process – If they won’t tell you, they either don’t have one, or their process is based on spam tactics.
They include monthly reports outlining everything they’ve done so far – Things like detailed traffic stats and conversion analytics allow you to see whether or not the SEO efforts are paying off.
They include training for your team – This can be a great way to get to know your SEO company and the team members that you’ll be working with.
They provide a list of people who’ll be working on your website, with each role outlined – Prior to signing any contract, knowing who will be working on your website is important.
They have reviews from actual people at established businesses – Anyone can get their friend to write them a review. Make sure they provide the name, title, and company of each person who’s written a review about them.
They have a website design and SEO experience that you’d be proud to have – are they presenting their business in a way that you’d want your small business to be represented online?
How to know when to hire? Answer these questions:
Do you want to use SEO as a long-term strategy for generating revenue?
Do you use other digital marketing strategies?
Does your current SEO strategy underdeliver when it comes to results?
Can you do SEO yourself?
Do you have the budget to hire SEO services?
How much will it cost?
Think of SEO as a long-term strategy, and be prepared and willing to invest time and money into it. It’s not something you can start and stop along the way — momentum is key, and businesses that are committed to SEO with a reputable and knowledgeable firm will experience the best results.
To bring things into perspective, once you damage your reputation with poor SEO practices, getting it back will most likely take months and cost two to three times what it would have cost if you’d just done your SEO right the first time.
SEO is such an important component of your online marketing strategy, making partnering with an experienced search engine optimization company crucial to your long-term success.

How to hire an SEO Expert (the only way)
Hiring an SEO expert can be a daunting task, in my experience as a Head of SEO I’ve had my fair share of terrible hiring experiences. So today we’re going to cover 4 main ideas that will help you find the right person to grow your website.
The first suggestion I give is to make sure that we’re at least familiar with the SEO basics to know what we’re looking for in an SEO. The more knowledge we have the better and smoother the hiring process will go. I’ve had plenty of experiences working with managers/business owners who didn’t know what was happening and had seriously unrealistic expectations.
Next, we want to dive deep into their SEO experience. We want to understand the type of knowledge that they’ve gathered and how deep it is. The best thing here is to have them outline all the different projects they’ve worked on, in which capacity, and what was the results of the work they did.
After their experience checks out we want to test them by making them give us an SEO audit and suggest a few high-impact things that we could to do improve our organic traffic. This is one of the best things we can do to determine how knowledgeable they are.
A final point I like to add is to also focus on personality traits and make sure that you have a good communicator. SEO isn’t always properly understood inside companies yet SEO work is extremely high value.
That’s why it’s important to have plenty of calls and interviews to find out the type of person that is joining your company.
